The Silent Patriots
This book is an anthology of present-day American Patriot’s thoughts and beliefs about their own patriotism. Patriotism can be defined as a feeling of love, devotion, and attachment to one’s country, of course there are many different ways to define patriotism as the examples of the patriots who have contributed their thoughts and feelings and personal beliefs about their patriotism to this book. President Nixon in a 1969 televised speech appealed to the “Great Silent Majority of Americans” to support his strategy in Vietnam. I believe there is a great silent majority of American Patriots who are anxious to have their voices heard. This book is the means by which their voices will be heard.
I am the author of the essay “From whence comes Patriotism” as posted on social media with a link to a website where the reader of the post could respond with their thoughts and feelings and beliefs. Additionally, the essay is included in the introduction of this book. The authors, in the main body of this book are all the Patriots who made the effort and wrote down their thoughts, feelings and beliefs about their own patriotism. Using an analogy of writing a letter to the editor of a newspaper, then the contributions of the Patriots, can be considered as “letters to the editor”, and the editor is the American reading Public.
I initially wrote the essay to be posted on the Convention of States BLOG, which would have a limited exposure, (Full disclosure, I’m a Content Writer for the Convention of States.) and why it is important to publish it in a book form. Some of us have probably from time to time thought about or perhaps even wrote as letter to the Editor of your local newspaper, maybe it even got published. posting on social media was another possible way to get exposure to this idea. That evolved into the idea of a book to express the viewpoints of many American Patriots. Borrowing from history, the concept in the following paragraph from Wikipedia on the subject of a silent majority. I believe there is a silent majority of Patriots who aren’t out demonstrating to gain attention, they just go about their lives and their voices need to be heard, against the backdrop of the vocal minority of America’s detractors.
